Esoteric Lore is a collective and traveling exhibit that creates and presents conscious based artwork for the purpose of social dialogue and understanding. Our initiatives give voice to human experiences that are not authentically and adequately represented in mainstream culture.

Our Mission:

About:

Recognizing the power inherent in visual practices, Esoteric Lore uses art as a tool to connect people across generation, race, class, and gender differences. It is important to acknowledge ancestry and history. At the same time, the collective sees art as a healing mechanism for social divisions that often inform basic human interactions.

In 2010, shortly after graduating from Spelman College in Atlanta, GA, I founded this collective with the hopes of uniting the masses through art. Merging women’s studies ideology with the essence of storytelling, Esoteric Lore’s foundational principals lie in the purpose of education and preservation. We see storytelling as a vital means for fostering spaces conducive to learning a shared history.

As a multi- medium exhibit, Esoteric Lore actively celebrates the complexities of women of African decent and challenges mainstream, one-dimensional representations of Black womanhood. With the use of photography, mixed media production, acrylic and oil paint, illustration, film, and print making techniques, we focus on the stories of a historically marginalized and minimized people.

Viewers can expect the work to inspire an understanding of the human spirit, while invoking conversation around self and societal reflection.

Serving as unique agents of thought and action, our endeavors encourage dialogue around the holistic understanding of seeing ourselves in one another.

We gratefully welcome national and international travel and solidarity. Esoteric Lore is invested in local and global community building through artistic expression and storytelling.
